How to make a good audition tape for Big Brother!

To answer your first question, no I have not put in an audition tape. I am focusing on my education and career right now, so taking 3 months away to live in the house is not possible for me at the moment. This list is compiled from all the tips and tricks given by the pros of Big Brother. People ranging from past houseguests to current casting directors and producers. After watching hours of videos and reading tons of posts, I have narrowed down the top 5 tips you need to make your tape great. If you are thinking about making an audition tape, give these tips a read and let me know how the experience is for you!

1. This is the most obvious so I am going to get it out of the way first. Make sure that you are in a well-lit area with a working microphone. Refrain from doing anything that involves taking a selfie video, not only is it distracting to watch, but it also results in a poorer quality audition video. My best advice is to use your computer in a room when you are alone and cannot be interrupted.

2. Casting directors have all said they do not need some crazy audition tape with tons of effects or gimmicks. The premise of the show is that you are being filmed 24/7 without any editing, so they need to know that you are interesting all by yourself.

3. Find a way to make mediocre things about yourself, extremely interesting. For example, if you are studying or have studied psychology in University, say that you are going to use that to read people and find out their weaknesses. Production also loves it when you say you are going to lie about something in the house. How many times have we heard "I am a cop, but I am not going to tell anyone" ? The reason why we keep hearing it is because it makes the houseguest enter the house a twist or secret and that makes them somewhat interesting right off the bat. Almost anything can be spun to sound interesting. If you come from a big family, say that you are used to fighting and yelling with all your siblings so you will probably do the same thing in the house. If you are an only child, say that you can see yourself fighting with people because you have always lived alone or not with very many people. Almost everything about you is interesting, you just have to think about the way you are going to present it.

4. This one is a tip that many past houseguests have passed along to people trying to get on the show. Everyone suggests that you make an audition tape as well as go to an open audition either in your city or a city near you. Some people put in tapes and went to auditions more then 10 times combined before being asked to be on the show. Each season needs a different cast and you might not fit into the cast type one year, but the next you are perfect. Keep trying and don't be discouraged if you turned away a couple times.

5. This is probably the most important and serious tip that I found in my search for how to get on Big Brother. This has less to do with the actual audition video and more to do with the steps after you have been selected for a call back. After you have been called back for second audition, the casting directors place everyone in small groups. While in these small groups, producers will ask the group questions - these questions can be anything from how many siblings do you have to something very controversial. Apparently the very best thing you can do during these group interviews is to find one or two people and interact with them as much as possible. Whether the interaction be positive or negative, the producers are looking for people who will be in alliances or on opposite sides of the house. Many past houseguests have said that they were in the same audition group as another houseguest in their season. Show the casting directors and producers that you are capable of a range of relationships and would be a strong personality in the house.

If you are looking to apply to the newest season of Big Brother Canada (auditions are being held now) then I highly suggest taking these tips into consideration. I would also encourage you to check out videos past houseguests have made about their auditions. Big Meech is one of my favourites!
